Pet Boarding

When choosing a kennel or cattery for your beloved animal companion it is absolutely essential that you choose a facility that practices high standards of animal welfare. The best evidence of this is when you see a pet boarding facility displaying the “AgriQuality Approved Pet Boarding Premises” logo at their premises and on their marketing material.

This logo is your proof that they have met with the rigorous AsureQuality Pet Boarding Standard, endorsed by the B.K.C.A.N.Z (Boarding Kennel and Cattery Association of NZ (Inc.)).

To ensure that boarding facilities have met this standard, an audit is undertaken by independent and impartial inspectors with no commercial link to the pet boarding industry. The audit takes into account:

  • Administration
  • Facility design
  • Environment for dogs and cats
  • Isolation facilities
  • Vaccination protocol
  • Healthcare
  • Emergency procedures
  • Food preparation
  • Transportation of pets
  • Staff health

The Approval Certification is valid for a 12-month period with annual inspections to ensure that standards are being maintained.  By adhering to these standards people involved in the animal boarding industry demonstrate to the general public their concern for the welfare of animals in their care.

AgriQuality, the Southern Hemisphere’s most accredited supplier of independent auditing and inspection services, is the only organisation in New Zealand offering boarding kennels and catteries an approved programme as evidence of their commitment to animal welfare.
