Collars can be tricky to get the right size for your pet. Usually a prior purchase is a good starting place if you want to measure another collar, but manufacturers vary on measurements depending on a particular product. For your pet's safety and comfort, please measure for a dog collar by measuring your dog's neck.

Using a standard measuring tape, measure your dog's neck where you would feel the collar should rest. Do not measure too tightly.
Another alternative is to take a piece of string and place around your dog's neck where the collar should lay. Then measure the length of string with a ruler or measuring tape.

As a general guide, you should be able to fit two fingers (flat) easily between the tape and your dog's neck. Remember, a collar shouldn't be tight around your dog's neck and it wouldn't be the exact meaurement of your dog's neck. But for safety reasons....so it doesn't snag on something, it shoudn't be too loose either. A snug fit is what you are aiming for. Not a tight one or one that chokes.

Just a few minutes to take an accurate measurement will help ensure you are pleased with your pet's new collar.

Collars are measured from the end of the buckle to the first notch and the last notch of the collar which represents the size neck that it will fit.
